We did many things right the first time. The choice of Aluminum is perhaps the most important. Its durability and long life in arid desert environment is remarkable. 95%+ of the concentrator is Aluminum. There’s a tad of appropriately placed Stainless steel, also, remarkably long lasting in desert environments. We have elements of our prototypes 40 years old with no signs of failure.
Below is the same stationary frame 30 years later ready for the next round of testing. New milestones are on the verge of being achieved. First is the start up tests of the new actuator technology that drives the mirrors (heliostats.) It is the first milestone we expect to hit. We expect to verify experimentally that concentrations of 1000 to 2000 to one are possible. All our math shows this is possible (see focus simulations coming soon).

Mirror Management
The idea that mirrors can be replaced and deployed quickly and easily is at the center of our technology, below is a quick simulation of one of our evolutionary steps that takes us to the mini power tower of today:

Automatic servicing is at the heart of our Mini Power Technology it allows easy refurbishing of the mirror, the most challenging component with respect to outdoor environments. The above simulation is an older integration of the servicing design. but the goal is the same: Get mirrors into cartridges to protect them from the high winds rain and dirt. There is a long list of advantages that go along with this:
- Dirt emulsifies on the surface of mirrors when it comes in contact with water. Automatic servicing prevents this from happening. Mirrors are air cleaned every day preventing dirt and water form ever mixing on the mirrors surface.
- When and if mirrors do lose reflectivity refurbishing is a snap. Automatic servicing make refurbishing or replacing mirrors easy.
- Allows mirrors designed for inside environments to be utilized saving cost.
- Allows mirrors to be super light weight also saving cost.
- Saves cost on the truss and stationary frame as it does not need to be designed for high wind loads transferred by the mirrors through the frame. The mirrors aren’t there to transmit those loads during high winds. More cost savings!
- yes the robots will cost money but in mass production the robots should cost and weigh the same as modern printers about $100 to $300 each. that’s inexpensive for all they do!
- Its also a great service during development the magnetic interface makes this easy.



- Picker/Placer Robot accesses the entire array of mirrors gathering 20 at a time into packets that are magnetically held together in a bundle and delivers them to the truck robot which intern delivers them to the Kiosk for night time storage. It all works in reverse to install them back on their magnetic mounts in the mornings.
- Truck robot carries the bundles too and from the storage Kiosk back to the Picker Placer robot.
- Kiosk is where the mirrors are stored at night and during bad weather. It is where the air cleaning station is located. The robots meet there to perform air cleaning.
